Why Use a Battery Backup for your Computer

October 9, 2014 By Karissa 1 Comment

Just gatta say I LOVE my new computer battery backup!

I had bought it several months ago but never got around to getting it plugged in. When I was rearranging my office area last week (you can see it here), I finally got it going. I made it so that just my computer was plugged into it.

Everything else (3 monitors, speakers w/sub, printer, 3 external hard drives, Neat Desk Scanner, purple glowy light strip & desk laps) is plug into a 12 outlet power strip that is plugged into a Woods Outdoor 24-Hr Photoelectric Timer with Remote Control* . This way, at the end of the day I can turn of all of these vampire power suckers in one click. Its so cool I’m probably going to get this 5-Pack Outlet 2 Wireless Remote package* next for other things around the house and the Christmas lights.

Anyway today the electricity blinked and stayed off for about a minute and I was right in the middle of a project for a client. Because of the battery backup, once the power came back on, I didn’t loose my workflow of having to re-open everything. I’m one of those people that have a ton of windows open in various browsers for various accounts and don’t restart the computer for days on end.

It seriously is a life changer! For the last 10 years I’ve hated thunderstorms because of the threat of a power outage. Now I don’t!

Here is a video explaining it a little more:

If you are in an area that has frequent power blackouts, brownouts, and spikes in your electricity, it’s essential to have a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to protect your sensitive electronics. This video explains in a simple way how a battery backup system (UPS) can shut down your computer gracefully in the event of a power failure.

So if you want to get one too here is the one I would recommend on Amazon:
